On Feb. 22 the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan witnessed the successful launch of a Soyuz-U rocket on a mission to put the Progress MS-05 transport cargo ship into orbit. It marked the final flight of the largest and one of the most reliable rockets in the legendary Soyuz family, reported Roscosmos.

The carrier rocket lifted off into space from Site No. 1, known colloquially as “Gagarin’s Start.” From here, on April 12, 1961, the Vostok spacecraft embarked on the world’s first manned spaceflight with Yuri Gagarin on board.

The Progress MS-05 cargo ship will deliver about 2.5 tons of cargo to the ISS, including fuel, equipment for scientific experiments, medical supplies, containers with food and water, and parcels for the ISS crew. The spacecraft is due to dock with the ISS on Feb. 24.
